Valve studio's jefe Gabe Newell says "people will be shocked again" by primo trio of announcements due over the coming year. (Excitement!)
Valve released a pretty intense twist during the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo, when former PlayStation 3 critic and Valve studio's Gabe Newell announced that Portal 2 would coming out for Sony's console in addition to versions for the Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. and wait there's more!, Newell actually enthroned the PS3 version of Portal 2 "the best console version of the game," because of it's compatibility with the new Steamworks, which allows for auto-updates, downloadable content, and community support directly from Valve. (Say, What!) Of course, Portal 2's presence on the PS3 as it would seem won't be the only bit of astonishing news from Valve in the near future. In an interview with PC Gamer magazine, Newell promised that his studio (Valve) is planning to make three more, (Yes, not 1, not 2 but 3 MORE.) surprising announcements over the coming year.
"We have three pretty big surprises in the next 12 months at least," Newell told the magazine. "I can guarantee you people are going to be surprised at stuff we do. That isn't going to stop anytime soon. I'm just laughing because people will be shocked again."

Another (arguably) astonishing and amazing announcement would be that for Half-Life 2: Episode 3. It, initially was all planned as a rapid-fire episodic series, Valve's Half-Life 2 expansions generated quickly and took on a life of their own following the release of Episode 1 in June 2006. Episode 2 presented itself and arrived on its release more than a year after the first release in the series, coming hand in hand bundled style with Team Fortress 2 and Portal as part of The Orange Box in November 2007. Valve has not offered a time frame for the release of Episode 3.

Any news from valve is good news! I'm tickled with excitement! i hope this means a Half-Life 3 announcement or maybe an original IP. Both would be fantastic!

My predictions:
A brand new game engine to build games. Source Engine is getting old in the tooth. A new Half Life game built on this brand new engine to showcase it. A MMORPG by Valve. Valve is capable of running a MMO on its community platform.

HL2 Episode 3 looks like a sure shot announcement and it's about time. Episode Two IMO is amongst the best games Valve has created and I can't wait for another HL2 installment.

I don't think episode 3 is going to be one of the surprises, because its taken way to long for Valve to produce a single episode. Its definitely HL3, maybe a new LFD for PS3 or LFD3 and that DOTA thing. Hey, at least we know Valve is cooking something up for us!
The more time they spend on porting to Mac, PS3, and Xbox, the more time it will take for Episode 3/HL 3 and other PC hits. Sad story :'(
Seriously, screw Episode 3. Make HL3 instead. The engine is too old now and the constant revamp of a 2003ish engine doesn't work so well seven years later.

Here is what im guessing. HL Episode 3 Delayed till 2016. Left 4 Dead 3 will be Left 4 Dead 2 with more piant and polish and will come out 2 days after announcing it. And Portal 3 Will be released on the same day as Portal 2 And cost 3 times as much.

Id have to say HL3/Source 2.0/Left 4 Dead 3 would probably be good candidates for things Valve is working on... though none of them would really supprise anyone so I'm not sure they are what hes talking about.
I gotta tell ya I hope it is something like this...They release HL2 EP3 and then tell us we are only a few months away from HL3s release....Its been too long for EP3 to work on its own...yeah we want it...but a couple years for 1-3 hours of play? They could really ROAR Half-Life back into the top spot with a move like that...I pray thats what their doing...HL was far too good to abandon.
I just thought of something.....Gabe is gonna tell us that Portal 2 and HL3 will be intertwined. Their stories overlap. Gordon Freeman and all his adventures are in GLaddos's mind....it's all fake! Wake up, Dr. Freeman...there is cake to be had.

If it has anything to do with the PS3 I don't care , I'm playing through HL2 EP2 (PC of course) again for the ..?. too many to count. Compared to games lately Valve could take a sh!! and it would be just as good if not better (there are good games out but nothing that compels me to play all the way through non stop) than all of them.

i dont care about tf and care even less for portal.. the only thing i want or will buy from valve is a all new hl3- not a freaken episode- but a whole new game.. hl2 is way too old now.. we need a hl3 and a new engine and better graphics- and give gordon freaken hands when he drives etc- make the guns a lil better with good iron sites and or scopes etc. mature alyx maybe give her a 7of 9 cat suit like up to date suit with same functions as gordons- and let them get together- romance etc- maybe start hl3 from the ending of epi2. maybe add a flying type vehicle and co op play. its starting to feel like valve is like all the others- they just want to milk us- and portal in no way is my cup of tea- hl2 is all i love in pc gaming- hl2 is in the history books.. valve needs to top it- put out a all new hl3- or shut up.. oh ya- i only play pc..

I know this has been said several hundred times before, but Valve need to start focusing more on Half Life. If it were not for Half Life, no one would even know Portal or Left 4 Dead would exist. Even if they did, it wouldn't sell very well due to a lack of a decent reputation. I like Left 4 Dead, Portal and the many Half Life mods out there. But please just spill the beans. Are ye making Half Life 3 or not?

If Valve considered Portal 2 on PS3 'big news', then my bet the three "surprises" are nothing more than Black Mesa: Source mod on Steam, the long awaited second installment of the promised L4D short movies, and last but not least, Peggle 3.
For some time now, Valve has been proving again and again that they are the No.1 company in the realm of PC gaming. Their games are top notch, and are supported with tons of mods and community features, unlike any other game. Their Steam Store is a little intrusive at times but the very low price tag for games ( especially during sales ) makes it the best service around. Keep up the good work guys!

Whats' with all the people saying they want Half Life 2 Episode 3 released getting down voted? It's an epic series with a storyline that rivals Metal Gear Solid and Ace Attorney series'. Left 4 Dead is a good shooter, but honestly the Half Life community has been waiting longer, then the L4D people who saw a release last november compared to an even further dated HL release.

I'm not sure why PS3 fans are wanting to jump into the Left 4 Dead series at the third game? As an owner off all the consoles I can safely say I wouldn't have wanted to jump into God OF War 3 on the Xbox 360 and missed out on the first two. It'd be like Resistance 3 coming to the Xbox 360, I doubt it would do well and I don't think getting into a series a few games in is going to really be a good thing.

over half the posts here are asking for a all new hl3.. valve should wake up.. if valve does not have a new in house game engine and cant make 1- maybe the new crytek2 engine would be good- its said its not a computer on earth that can run the crytek3 engine they are working on now-- but crytek started leasing the rights out for its engine- 2 i think it is.. videos ive seen- it looks nice enough.. other changes id like to see- is a less linear game - they could even add some rps [role playing shooter] elements- id be ok with that. and being rps games are my favorite genre these days [stalker- bioshock- fo3- borderlands] etc. fo3 having the worst fps mechanics of them listed. its clunky- its a poor fps- and with vats its more a rpg game.. maybe valve could make the new in house gsc engine better- seems valve and gsc has worked together in the past.. i dont know- im just popping ideas is all.. the only surprise that will get my rise is 3 lil words.. Somehow I doubt they'll do a L4D3. There's no need right now, they can just release more content as DLC expansions for L4D2. If the 3 surprises are DotA and Ep 3, the third surprise is probably going to be something completely new nobody knows about.

I'm guessing one of them is a new source engine. The other better be Episode 3. It's been almost 3 years since they left us with Episode's 2 ending. I loved Episode 2 but we need a resolution!
