Sony puts down a launch release date for Guerrilla Games' Move-compatible 3D shooter.
At this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) , Sony publicized that Killzone 3 would make an appearance sometime next February. Enthusiastic and avid fans of the franchise need not fret and worry about the first-person shooter standing in the way with their Valentine's Day festivities, as Sony today reported that Killzone 3 will launch on February 22.
As the name proposes, Killzone 3 will serve as a direct sequel to 2009's critically praised Killzone 2. In last year's title, the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance took the fight to the Helghan homeworld, where they attain their goal which is a measure of success against the Nazi-esque civilization of invaders in the 2004 original.
For the third entry in the series, Amsterdam-based Guerrilla Games will be fleshing out the Helghan homeworld with more enemy types, larger and more diverse environments, and jetpacks. With the futuristic personal conveyance, gamers gain the ability to thrust skyward for a limited period of time, affording them access to heretofore unreachable locations and opening up the possibility of aerial gunfights.
Killzone 3 will also support Sony's PlayStation Move peripheral, as well as stereoscopic 3D displays.
The "shooting attachment" designed to place the PlayStation Move motion controller horizontally, will allow players to hold the motion controller as if they are holding a gun and to easily aim at an in-game target. The trigger on the attachment is interlocked with the motion controller T button and will enable users to intuitively play the game, not only limited to shooting games but also on games that may require precise button input and control. It will deliver immersive gameplay and will work perfectly with software titles like The Shoot (tentative name) by SCE and BIG 3 GUN SHOOTING by Bandai Namco Games Inc. which is expected to support the attachment. The “shooting attachment” will become available starting this fall in each region at a RRP of 14.99 euros, US$19.99 and 1,480 yen (including tax), respectively.
Through the introduction of PlayStation Move controllers, attractive software line-ups and peripherals, SCE will continue to further expand the PS3 platform and create a new world of computer entertainment that is only possible on PlayStation.
