Batman: Arkham City has been kept under wraps for quite some time since the teaser trailer reveal last year. Bits of information regarding characters and gameplay have been talked about, but we still haven't gotten a good look at what the game will be like. That's all about to change once the September issue of Gameinformer comes around, and if the article is anything like the cover art of the magazine, we should be in for a real treat.

Batman's always been my favorite superhero, and being a huge fan of Arkham Asylum, you could say I'm pretty hyped for Arkham City. Arkham Asylum was my favorite superhero based video game to date, and I can't wait to see what Rocksteady has in store for Arkham City. Judging just by the covers, it seems there could be a lot in store for players. Take a look at both Gameinformer covers below.

These are, hands down, my favorite Gameinformer coveres. I thought the Portal 2 covers were cool, but these are just, words can't even describe how awesome these are. I just might go out and buy both versions of the issue being the Batman fan that I am. Just looking at the covers we can see that this could be an even darker Batman game than its predecessor. We've got a burning city in the backdrop in the first and Batman wiping blood off his face in the second with a chained up Catwoman. Oh yeah, if you didn't notice Catwoman's in this game. We're not clear what role she's going to play in Arkham City, but it's safe to say she'll probably play a substantial part in the game. I know the rumor mills are already a blaze with theories of co-op play with Batman and Catwoman. Also, in the second one we may be getting our first glimpse of in game Harvey Dent/Two Face, via a poster on a building. Anyone catch the nod to the Batman Animated Series with the blimp and spotlights in the first cover?

Remember these?
I'll try and post more information regarding Arkham City and my thoughts on the Gameinformer article once I get my hands on it. According to the official site, Batman: Arkham City will be released sometime next year. No official date has been set, but I'm hoping for a spring/summer release.

  2. I can't wait to play this. The first one was so much fun and those finishing moves still linger with me, talk about painful.

  4. Gonna be great!!!

  5. "It is set in a sequestered section of Gotham City that has become the home for the criminally insane. Players are introduced to a brand new story that bring together an ensemble cast of characters and villains from the Batman universe, as well as enhanced gameplay features that build upon the ultra-realistic Dark Knight experience that fans enjoyed with Batman: Arkham Asylum."

  7. I hope that Freeze and the Riddles will show up. This game is going to rock!

  8. This will be a great sequel. The first game was excellent and I want to see how they've improved the already impressive fighting system. I just hope they don't waste time and try to add a multi-player.

Possibility: Co-Op???? Cat Woman and Batman Team up? @___@ Will there be a Collector Edition?? Will Penguin slide down the Iced up road? Will this man get his Hamburger?! stay tune till next time! on the same cat channel, same Bat time!. [insert Batman Adam West Theme song here[

  11. Nventer Says:
  12. I hope this game is more of a open-world type like Assassin's Creed 2 or something along those lines. It would be cool in between missions or after the story mode is finished to cruise, swing, grapple, fly or however we can get around the city and save civilians and/or beat up thugs. HIGH HOPES

  13. MCLLAMA FACE Says:
  14. WANT.

  15. DVSDEVISE Says:
  16. I think the "penguin" picture is really that Uncle Sam/Two-Face looking poster in the trailer all over town. hope they let us shoot down the blimps..lol

  18. O!M!G!O!M!G!O!M!G!O!M!G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I THINK I'M HAVING A HEART ATTACK! Oh, no, wait, that's just my brain exploding at the sight of such supreme awesomeness. Okay, back to fanboy frenzy-orgy-thing. O!M!G!O!M!G!O!M!G!O!M!G!O!M!G!O!M!G!

  19. Noraine91 Says:
  20. OH MY GOD THOSE COVERS ARE GOOD! Wow, good job whoever was in charge of that. Lets all hope that Mr Freeze is played by the Governator.

  21. QuiverWing Says:
  22. those GI mag covers are nothing but awesome. I still hope you could play as Robin, but after seeing the image, I wouldn't mind playing as catwoman.

  23. JCheeze Says:
  24. I AM SO Excited...only think im kinda bummed about is that this is the last time for the "true" joker voice......

  25. ShiroiAkuma Says:
  26. Catwoman! I'd love to get in on that co-op action...

But I don't think Mark Hamill is entirely serious about giving up the Joker, he's already doing the voice for the DCU MMO, I think given enough incentive he'd come back to the role in a heartbeat.

  27. Damn Arkham City, I know the cast of villains will definitely be bigger but I wonder if Batman will actually get help this time, a cameo by Nightwing,Robin or Oracle would be much appreciated since Red Hood is already comfirmed as in as well.

  28. I'm SUPER hyped right now. I'm reeeeally liking those covers. Also: please, please, PLEASE let there be co-op play. I really hope there's co-op, but I mean I'll live if it's not there lol. 2011 can't come fast enough....

  29. It would be cool if they had Catwoman playable as a "half" character, like co star in Mario Galaxy 2 or Tingle in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. That way player 1 can be BATMAN while player 2 can play as Catwoman, assisting BATMAN but driving the point home that he does not need any help. Plus, I really like that kind of co-op and wish more games would have that kind of thing. I mean I love things like new super mario bros. and army of two, but I also like that "half" multiplayer thing, it's really cool to play with your girlfriend or younger sibling.

  30. XXNARAYXX Says:
  31. Man that GI cover looks awesome. Can't wait for it.

  32. FXIX Says:
  33. This is what I'm expected, this game will be the game of the year 2011, gotham city is the best place for batman, because the whole point is "watch over the city".
I am so excited, I already love the game. lol

  34. SMROCKS Says:
  35. Sweet. I hope you can play as Catwoman in challenge maps(if they return). Since Bats will be in Gotham it would be cool if they had cameos of people like Oracle, Huntress and the Outsiders.

  36. AcelronHeart Says:
  37. So I gusse with Mark Hamill not playing the Joker after this that he's going to die?

  38. Happy McFish Says:
  39. Best news I have heard all week! So excited for this game. I am a little disappointed with the name though. With the 15 that they were tossing around, I think this one is a little...blah...compared to the others.

  40. Dear Rocksteady Studios. Please please please. If you are going to have Two-Face in this game, please please please get Richard Moll to do the voice work. That is all.

  41. RC-11 Says:
  42. BEST NEWS EVER!

  43. MLGPOSTTOWN Says:
  44. I am going to buy to copies of that game informer, one to read and fap, and one to frame on my wall because that cover is epic

  45. Barredal Says:
  46. I never liked version of catwoman with shades, but lets see how it works...

  47. Mhoory Says:
  48. Could've been "Gotham Asylum", but still good.

Personally prefered Infamous as the "Best Superhero game" hope Infamous 2 beat this in 2011

  49. AnttiApina Says:
  50. Not a bad title. Catchy enough.

Absolutely loving the art and the introduction of Catwoman.

Consider me intrigued, so much so I am, at some stage, going to pick up Arkham Asylum and give it a crack. I know it's meant to be pretty good but have never gotten around to playing it. Looks like I'll have to rectify that.

  51. QuiverWing Says:
  52. riddler's been hinted/confirmed?

  53. love this!

though, means the future sequels will be predictable.

next one after this will be arkham county. then arkham state. then arkham country. then arkham continent. then arkham world. then arkham galaxy. then arkham universe. then arkham universe- dimensions. then arkham beyond the universe. then arkham heaven. then arkham hell. then arkham oblivion? or, arkham abyss?

will look forward to all these future titles.

specially this one comin' up. cat woman is purrrrrrfect! but, mr. freeze is also pretty cool, i guess.

  54. SGTDookie Says:
  55. Dam this game will be so good,im gonna have to play AA again just thinkin about it.

  56. That cover art is so frickin amazing, I am very jazzed about this game.

  57. Pstone3 Says:
  58. that might be the sickest cover art ever on gameinformer and thats saying alot

  59. Arkham City is fine with me.

I actually liked Broken Ground. It sounded like a graphic novel or comic book story arc to me. I liked it... a lot. Arkham City is fine with me, too, I just want to play the damn game.

So, Catwoman will hopefully be heavily involved? Good. I love her character and prefer her as a "sidekick" to Batman any day over a Robin (yet Nightwing tops all).

Confirmed or heavily implied new characters or returning character as of now:
    Mr. Freeze
    Talia al Ghul
    Joker
    Harley
    Penguin
    Two-Face
    Black Mask
    Riddler
    Catwoman

I'm fine with it just like that. If they could slide in Scarecrow, Hush, and an intelligent Bane without messing up the story, then I'll be set

  60. AceJakk Says:
  61. "Arkham City" is a fail name. It was my least favourite of the registered names. I was really hoping for "Ashes of Gotham". What a surprise, another U.S. developer who sucks at titles.

  62. Shadfather Says:
  63. OMG! Geeks unite! Finally some frickin news on this game. I've been waiting to hear something since the trailer come out last December. Catwoman is in the game? OMG! This game is gonna be the S***!!! BATMAN RULES!

  64. HaloSpartan Says:
  65. O MY GOSH man I have been waiting for this game since I beat the first one. I now I'm going to prepare and.... I'll be ready.

  66. [DEFY] Says:
  67. wow, just that cover ...wow...but the target release date just kills me X_X

  68. This game is going to fucking epic!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a shame that it'll have to compete with Gears 3 for the GOTY title. I'd really like to see which of these two monster games wins it though.

  69. Jakob997 Says:
  70. Things like this make me happy I've subscribed to Game Informer.

  71. RandyGordo Says:
  72. really hope I get the second cover in the mail. This is honestly the coolest artwork Game Informer has ever had.

  73. oozie Says:
  74. I gotta admit that cover is the shit.I just wonder if they would be so kind to add Nightwing..........

  75. Starkiller Says:
  76. For one second I thought Batman was wearing a white suit but whatever this is looking good looking foward for more news on this game

  77. AndyBMCD Says:
  78. Would it have been so hard to call it Batman: Gotham City or something like that?

    But anyways, SUPER PUMPED.

  79. SMROXS Says:
  80. Sweet. I hope you can play as Catwoman in challenge maps(if they return). Since Bats will be in Gotham it would be cool if they had cameos of people like Oracle, Huntress and the Outsiders.

  81. Shauny195 Says:
  82. I'll wait until the Gameinformer to make my decision but I'm leaning more to getting it. It looks great!
