I'm back from being out of town for a few days and what am I greeted with? A nice juicy video of Infamous 2 goodness. Watch the video below and check out a few of my thoughts on this first look at the gameplay of Infamous 2!
I'll give you a second to wipe the drool off your keyboard. All good? Alright, then lets dive in and dissect this kitty.
I was a huge fan of the first Infamous. I boldly chose it over Prototype and from what I hear, I made a good choice, because apparently that game wasn't that great. Anyways, back to Infamous. There were so many things that I loved about the first game. The comic book style cutscenes were brilliantly executed, the gameplay was fast and fun, the climbing was snappy and responsive and the story played in a really cool way and had a few twists I didn't even see coming. Granted there were a few downsides to the game, the voice acting wasn't on par with games like Uncharted and Mass Effect, the NPC's were very stiff and seemed to repeat the same animations, and the graphics were pretty good for environments but the faces and mo-cap could've used some work. Personally I found the combat to be fairly satisfying but it looks like they've changed that up in the second one, and it looks to be for the better.
With the reveal of this first gameplay footage, there's a lot that's changed in the Infamous universe. Cole's been redesigned and even touts a new voice actor, which some say is a little too heroic sounding but it really didn't bother me too bad. Zeke also seems like he may have gotten a voice actor swap but it's hard to tell with the little dialogue that he has in the trailer. Voice actor swap aside, it looks like Sucker Punch is headed in the right direction, because the voice acting in the trailer sounded great and I just hope that it shows throughout the side quest characters as well.
Moving on to the setting, I am really digging the switch from the dark, dank New York like city, to a new and vibrant Louisiana type setting. Colors pop out and locations look more unique and I feel like it will provide for some very unique set pieces in the game.
As for the gameplay, it seems like Sucker Punch has listened to some of the complaints the fans had with the first Infamous and have varied things up and provided more depth to the combat. Cole now sports a new lightning rod, type melee weapon that he uses to smack around his enemies. Traversing the environment also seems to have gotten an upgrade. Now Cole can grind up pipes and along the side of walls in addition to the power lines linking together rooftops. Couple that with the awesome glide ability from the first game and you've just made traversing the city 10x more fun. We also got a glimpse at a new power in the game where Cole summons some kind of lightning tornado that proceeds to tear apart a helicopter that is raining down on Cole.
All in all, Infamous 2 looks to be shaping up very nicely. Being a fan of the first game, I can't wait to see where this new game takes us story wise. If this first gameplay is any inclination, Infamous 2 should be a game to look forward to.
One of the games, I am looking forward to next year!
Duude, Infamous 2 looks Saaaah-weeet.
I have to say, it's a great improvement from the first one!
I can't wait for this game. It looks so stunning
I read a game informer article and they said Zeke has the same voice actor.
