Now, I'm usually pretty informed when it comes to video game news, but for some reason I have never heard, or read, a single bit of information on this game until today. What game am I talking about you ask? Well, its called El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. You've never heard of it either? Then take a look at these trailers and read some of my thoughts after the jump.

Part 2:
Still with me? So, from what I've read it looks like El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a 3D action/adventure game for the Xbox 360 and PS3, that is being developed by Sawaki Takeyasu and Masato Kimura. Not ringing any bells? Well, to jog your memory, these are the masterminds responsible for bringing us Devil May Cry, Okami and Viewtiful Joe, and by looking at these two trailers it seems they are not shying away from adding a touch of their previous games into El Shaddai. The cell shading from Okami and Viewtiful Joe, coupled with a new twist on Devil May Cry's combat are clearly apparent, but its the story and atmosphere of El Shaddai that really have me intrigued.
The story of El Shaddai revolves around the Book of Enoch, from the Old Testament. Now, before you get any ideas, let me tell you that this is not your typical Sunday School parable. This is a completely re-imagined view of heaven that, if anything, looks like it would fit more in the realm of Bayonetta than in a church pew. The player will take control of and follow Enoch, a human that has been sent to heaven to help God deal with a group of seven fallen angels. Oddly enough, the fallen angel that everyone is most familiar with, Lucifer aka the Devil, is actually your mentor/handler in the game. This is apparently his pre-fallen angel days where he dressed in silky, black shirts and denim jeans and literally has God on speed dial. Oh, and he goes by the name of Lucifel in the game, not sure if thats a Japanese translation or if they altered his name for the game. In addition to Lucifel, Enoch will meet and receive help from four other archangels while he is on his journey through heaven, Raphael, Uriel, Gabriel and Michael. I'm not sure what type of help, whether it will be in the form of powers or if they will just step in at the opportune moment, but they will be there. Also, anybody else get the feeling that we may witness Lucifel's fall from grace as we near the end of the game?
This game is beautiful. The graphic style is a little bit different from the normal 3D animation, I guess it is a mixture of cell shading or something? Add that to pile of games I need to buy.
I believe it is a full retail game, but I could be wrong. Yeah, Forgotten Gamer, I believe it is some kind of mixture of cell shading. Looking back at my post, it almost reminds me more of the Prince of Persia 2008 art style more than anything else.
LOL DENIM JEANS.
Oooh, I can't wait for this game. I actually saw the trailer for this game on Gametrailers. It's pretty spiffy. Graphics are good, but hopefully the story line ain't too shabby either.
Well, isn't this a treat for the religious?
