E3 2010 has officially left the building. The dust is beginning to settle in the Los Angeles Convention Center, and the video game world is finally returning to normal. The "Big Three" have unveiled all their E3 surprises, and now gamers around the world are impatiently awaiting this Fall, where Halo: Reach will kick off, what looks to be, a very promising line up of games. With all that being said, I wanted to give a little best, and worst, of award and share some of my final thoughts on E3 2010.
Best Press Conference
I thought Sony had the best, overall press conference. They did a good job of introducing Move to the more casual audience while still staying true to the core gamers by announcing some really great titles like Infamous 2 and Little Big Planet 2. Nintendo was a close second, and it pains me to go against the announcement of a new Zelda game, but I just felt that, while Nintendo announced some really amazing games, they were a bit lacking when it came to the excitement department. Microsoft, for me, was a dead last. I just kept getting this impression from Microsoft that was basically saying, "Yeah, we made this awesome product that's so much better than anything you can imagine, so no matter the price or the games you should go buy it right now because we're Microsoft and we just want your money." Best Game of E3
From the little bit of gameplay that I saw of Portal 2, I can tell you that I can't wait to play this game next year. From the complex puzzles to the new bounce and slide mechanics, it seems like Valve has, once again, created something truly amazing and unique with Portal 2.
Biggest Surprise
Vanquish is a game that I have been following ever since it was first announced. From the few trailers that were released, I could tell this game had the potential to step out of the preconceptions of what a third-person shooter is and become something truly unique. When I finally saw the game in action I was blown away. The fast-paced, over the top, adrenaline fueled action instantly caught my eye and left me wanting more. I was completely taken off guard at how fun this game looks and it may just turn out to be an unexpected, day one buy for me.
Biggest Disappointment
No Last Guardian gameplay reveal. So, after recently beating Shadow of the Colossus for the first time, which is an amazing game by the way, I was itching to see what Team Ico had in store for us with The Last Guardian. You can see then why I was so letdown when, to my dismay, the Sony press conference ended without even so much as a trailer for The Last Guardian. I'm just hoping that I don't have to wait another year to hear more about this epic title, because I honestly don't know if I can wait that long.
Overall, I thought that this year's E3 was a little disappointing. Don't get me wrong, there were some great announcements and titles shown, but I felt like their was a certain element of surprise and excitement that was missing from the press conferences this year. There wasn't really an, "Oh my god, I can't believe they just announced this!," moment for me. The impression I got from E3 was something along the lines of, "Hey, here's a bunch of motion control devices and games you already know about but we're gonna show 'em to you anyways." It made everything feel very boring and repetitive. Here's to hoping that E3 2011 is chock full of excitement and surprise announcements and not a 30 minute demonstration of a Wii Sports knock off.

I thought this years E3 was pretty disappointing as well. Last years was so much better. This years E3 focus was mostly on the "moving" aspect of entertainment like the Kinect or the Move. But, I guess there is also a bright side to the story with all these rad new games and sequels.
I cannot wait for Portal 2!
Agreed, E3 was shit this year.
Vanquish is going to be BEAST!!
If you read the comments, thank you for the kind words of encouragement Forgotten Gamer. This is the first time I have ever written anything for other people to read, and yes we are planning on doing a podcast and maybe do a live stream of some games so stay tuned and thanks again.
Not bad for first timers. Really looking forward to those podcasts and streams.
E3 was a total letdown. Really, you know there is something wrong when Nintendo had the best press conference. Ok, it was a really awesome press conference, but it shouldn't have totally bent over and raped Microsoft and Sony.
Portal 2 and (showing my fanboysism here) Halo: Reach were the only things I was interested in this year. 3DS looks pretty cool but I have never, and will never own a handheld. Kevin Butler is so awesome I may just get a PS3 and hope some more games I want to play come out for it. All in all a pretty meh show for me. I declare the entire show a draw.
