Video Game Review: Alan Wake"A Psychological Thriller."
The game is very well paced, and frightening. The slow motion sequences are for the most part extremely delicious. The environments are impeccable, the woods are themselves one of the most immersible in Xbox graphics and is one of the most satisfying experiences I have had in a game. While playing the game, I have noticed that I frequently get lost while in battle, and have to backtrack but this adds to the terrorizing experience of feeling isolated and afraid of the dark.
Interior environments are detailed, but nothing exceptional but the best part about being indoors is that things get extremely claustrophobic, and there is very limited room to maneuver, which is frightening in itself. The story told through internal dialogue, cut scenes, in game dialogue, TV, and radio. Remedy did an incredible job at creating story here, sometimes it is tacky, but overall it is better written and executed than most movies these days. The cliff hangers are awesome by itself, and I love the end of each episode. It is refreshing to play a thriller, that scares but does not have to be gratuitous, they developed tension, fear, anxiety, and this sense that despite the odds, you should go forward because you actually care about the characters and story. If you want a game that would put you on the edge of your seats then try to put some Wake in your life.
